Electronic Cigarette Beginner’s Guide

Every day, hundreds of smokers come to our site looking for an e-cigarette that will help them make the switch away from traditional cigarettes. We know there’s a lot of options when shopping for an electronic cigarette, sometimes it can be overwhelming. So, we have created a beginner’s guide to help you with your research and selection process.

As our top ranked e-cig brand, we’re going to go through this guide assuming you are shopping for a Green Smoke electronic cigarette.

Step 1 – Starter Kit Selection

Once you have decided on a brand, the first step is to choose a starter kit. Most brands offer a wide variety, so it’s important to figure out what you really need.

If you clicked the link above, you can see Green Smoke offers several different options including the Pro Kit, Express Kit, Ultimate Kit and Love Bird’s Kit. Each kit comes with at least one rechargeable battery, at least one pack of cartridges (or cartomizers), and various chargers and other accessories.

Green Smoke’s most popular starter kit, the Pro Kit, comes with two batteries, two packs of cartomizers, and high powered chargers. We recommend getting a kit with at least two batteries so you can always be charging a spare and never be stuck without power. As a bonus, Green Smoke’s kits include a pass-through USB cigarette that is powered directly from a USB port, which is great for when you’re near a computer.

Other brands offer different features in their starter kits such as carrying cases which we will talk about in Step 4 – Accessories.

Add a kit to your cart before moving on to the next step.

Step 2 – Battery Selection

You will see the default battery color for the Green Smoke Pro Kit is white which glows red when you inhale. If you chose a kit with at least two batteries like we recommend, you will notice you get to choose a short and long battery. The long battery lasts a little longer, while the shorter battery is easier to carry in your pocket or purse.

Now you can see the different options for batteries, which include pink with a green glow and white with a green glow. Other brands offer similar options with colors and lengths.

V2 Cigs also offers a choice between manual and automatic. All Green Smoke’s batteries are automatic, which means they start making vapor when you inhale. Manual batteries have a switch that starts the vapor. This is a great feature for more advanced vapers that like lots of vapor.

Before you “Apply Changes”, go to the next step to learn about cartridge options.

Step 3 – Cartridge Selection

You can see the Green Smoke default cartridges are Absolute Tobacco with Zero (0%) nicotine. While you may be working towards zero nicotine, we recommend choosing the strength that is equal to what you usually smoke. Some people like to get one step stronger than their regular cigarettes to help with the adjustment to e-cigarettes.

For flavor selection, we recommend getting one pack that’s similar to what you usually smoke and one pack that is a fun flavor or something new that you’re interested in trying. Green Smoke offers three tobacco flavors:

• Absolute Tobacco – Bold, sweet taste of natural tobacco.
• Red Label – Classic cigarette tobacco, with a robust, woody flavor.
• Tobacco Gold – Rich blend of Burley, Oriental and Virginia tobacco flavors with a rich, sweet taste similar to a cigar.

They also offer the following non-tobacco flavors:

• Menthol Ice – Smooth, pleasant Menthol freshness
• Mocha Mist – Tastes like freshly roasted coffee with notes of chocolate.
• Smooth Chocolate – Rich, dark chocolate is great for those with a sweet tooth.
• Vanilla Dreams – Sweet and creamy vanilla flavored.

As you may expect, other brands offer different flavors, but we feel Green Smoke has the highest quality cartridges with the best flavors. If you would like to try something unique, V2 Cigs offers flavors like Cola, Cherry and Peppermint.

Step 4 – Accessories

In the Green Smoke shopping cart you can see they recommend a few accessories including a carrying case and electronic cigarette battery. We also recommend picking up a few items that will improve your electronic cigarette experience and help with the switch from tobacco cigarettes. The carrying case is great for packing up your e cigarette to take with you. Extra batteries are always handy, especially if you’re a heavier smoker.

Blu Cigs and South Beach Smoke offer special carrying cases which can charge your e cigarette batteries on the go. These are relatively new to the industry, but have several great features. Not only can you charge a battery anywhere, but you can also store extra cartridges in a pack which is about the same size as a pack of regular cigarettes.
